Veridea development takes shape in Apex: 'Truly amazing'

APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- The massive 1,100-acre Veridea development is beginning to take shape in Apex, with early progress now visible to drivers.

After more than a decade of legal and administrative delays, the long-anticipated project spearheaded by RXR is finally moving forward. The master-planned community will bring a mix of homes, schools, industry, parks, and retail to Wake County during the next decade.

While full build-out will take several years, residential construction is a priority. The first homes are currently targeted for completion by 2028. Crews are focused on building essential infrastructure, including water and sewer systems.

"You have to have that foundation first," Mayor Jacques Gilbert said.

The development is expected to generate thousands of jobs as Apex continues to grow. Long term, leaders envision Veridea as a major regional hub.

Future phases will introduce retail offerings, including high-end dining, multiple grocery options, and a more walkable, community-focused design. The site will also be home to the future NC Children's Hospital.

"Seeing asphalt and lights going up ... it is really great to see," Gilbert said. "The Children's Hospital is going to be truly amazing for many families looking for hope."

The full project is expected to be complete by 2032.

"Pay attention, keep the vision in front of you," Gilbert said. "You'll start seeing things come into shape, and it's going to be truly amazing for the town of Apex and the region."
