Wake County man, dog die in early morning house fire
The deadly fire broke out at a home on Guy Road just off US 70 near Clayton.

GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Wake County man has died after getting pulled from a house fire early Monday.

The fire broke out at a home on Guy Road just off US 70 near Clayton around 1 a.m. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the home.

Garner Fire Department officials told ABC11 that they pulled a man and two dogs from the fire.

The man, identified as 56-year-old Mark Nieratko, later died at a hospital. One of the dogs also died.

The surviving pet is in the care of Wake County Animal Control.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
