Wayne County SWAT team in standoff with 84-year-old woman

PRINCETON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A six-and-a-half-hour standoff ended late Friday in Wayne County on Friday night at a home near Princeton.

The sheriff's office said they tried to serve a trespass warrant on an 83-year-old woman around 5 p.m. at a home on East Evans Road after a family member asked law enforcement to make her leave.

They said she pointed a gun at authorities before locking herself in a bathroom.

Sheriff's negotiators were called to the scene.

Around 11:20 p.m., the standoff ended when negotiators were able to get the gun from her and get her to come out of the house.

She was placed under arrest. More details will be forthcoming, a spokesman said.
