Ten hostages are safe after a tense 15-hour standoff at a downtown Bakersfield bank ended early Wednesday with the death of the suspect, authorities said.
A man pleaded not guilty to killing his coworker with a machete and shooting a New York officer in the face Friday.
A grand jury returned an indictment Friday on John Bozard, paving the way for a criminal trial in the shooting.
Authorities say there is no "ongoing threat to the community."
Paul Lawrence Rader, 47, was released from the hospital and taken into custody last week.
The standoff lasted for nearly two hours. It started after Raleigh police tried to serve him several warrants.
