New details emerge in NC park mass shooting that left two dead, five injured

WINSTON-SALEM (WTVD) -- Winston-Salem Police Department have released new details about Monday's shooting at Leinbach Park, where a planned fight between two teenage girls escalated into gunfire that left two boys dead and five others injured.

You may remember the initial story regarding the incident 2 teens dead, 5 injured after planned fight turns into a shootout at Winston-Salem park but new details from investigators indicate a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl arranged to meet at the park to fight. As word spread, about 15 juveniles and adults gathered to participate, watch or record the altercation.

After the initial fight, tensions rose among others in the group. Police said 16-year-old Daniel Jiminez Milian and 17-year-old Erubey Romero Medina began arguing, while 18-year-old Joel Michael Gamble-Toliver and 17-year-old Steven Villanueva got into a physical fight.

As the situation escalated, Milian and Gamble-Toliver pulled out firearms and began shooting. Milian fired toward Medina, Gamble-Toliver and others nearby, striking multiple people, according to police. Gamble-Toliver then fired in Milian's direction. Both Medina and Milian were shot and died at the scene.

Five others were injured, including Gamble-Toliver, a 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman who has not been identified. Police said the victims' injuries range from minor to serious.

Several arrests have been made in connection with the incident:

Yamilet Jimenez-Milian, 21, was charged with felony inciting a riot. She is being held on a 24-hour hold and will receive a $50,000 secured bond.

Joel Michael Gamble-Toliver, 18, was charged with felony child abuse under N.C. General Statute 14318.4(a4) and felony riot.

Steven Villanueva, 17, was charged as an adult with felony inciting a riot.

Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges are expected.
