Hwy 64 in Apex reopens hours after power line fell

APEX, NC (WTVD) -- A high-voltage power line has fallen across the eastbound lanes of Highway 64 in Apex near Jenks Road. The eastbound lanes were closed and one westbound lane was closed for hours.

The road reopened about 6:30 p.m.

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed the electricity set grass on fire in places.

Police and firefighters were keeping motorists from driving over the live wire and risking electrocution.

Traffic was being detoured to 540.
