SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WTVD) -- An elementary school principal accused of making students walk in the heat with no water has been removed from her position, and temporarily re-assigned.

Parents complained that Tammy Holland punished kids on the last day of school when they did not wear their uniforms. The Manchester Elementary School principal allegedly made the kids walk outside for hours, until their parents came to pick them up.

Frank Till, superintendent of Cumberland County Schools, confirmed Holland had been removed from the school, and temporarily re-assigned to the Central Office. She has 14 days to request an appeal.

The decision follows a system investigation.

"After reviewing the information from the investigation and holding a personnel conference with Ms. Tammy Holland, I have determined that sufficient evidence exists to remove Holland as principal and assign her temporarily to the Central Office until all personnel proceedings are complete," Till said in a statement.
