Pedestrian hit, taken to hospital in Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being hit on Hillsborough Street Wednesday afternoon, police said.

It happened on Hillsborough Street near the Pogue Street intersection. Police said the pedestrian, 53-year-old Michael Anthony Koward, was standing in the median and attempted to cross the street while cars were passing.

A Ford pickup, driven by 51-year-old John Jay Magdefrau of Raleigh, struck Koward.

Koward's injuries are said to be non-life threatening. According to a wreck report, police suspect Koward was under the influence of alcohol.

No charges have been filed.
