RALEIGH -- The Raleigh Police Department is warning residents about sounds and traffic issues during a large-scale, tactical training exercise.

The exercise is scheduled for Sunday morning at 8:30 at the U.S. Navy Reserve Training Center on Western Boulevard.

Officials say the exercise will last about two hours and will involve the closure of one inbound lane of Western Boulevard between Dan Allen Drive and Avent Ferry Road, along with the closure of Dan Allen Drive south of Western Boulevard. They say the closures are required to park and stage vehicles and equipment related to the exercise.

Authorities say sounds resembling small explosions and gunfire may be heard during the exercise. They say the sounds will be part of the exercise scenario and will not be cause for alarm.
