Man sentenced to 17 years for Scotty McCreery robbery
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The man who pleaded guilty to the 2014 armed robbery of American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and three of McCreery's friends was sentenced Tuesday.
McCreery and several others were present in the courtroom as a judge sentenced 21-year-old Mikkail Shaw to a minimum of 17 years in prison.
The prosecutor said there would be no victim impact statements, but he spoke for the victims saying they had been terrorized on the night of the home invasion and are still feeling the effects of having a gun against their heads.
On Monday, Shaw admitted to pushing his way into an off-campus Raleigh apartment near NC State with other gunmen on May 5, 2014. He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the home invasion.

Police said three armed suspects burst into the apartment in the 2100 block of Raleigh's Wolf Tech Lane and took wallets, cash and electronics.
According to a search warrant, the robbers were armed with two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle and forced McCreey and his friends into a closet, then told them to count to 100 before they could come out.
The warrant said Shaw was identified through forensic evidence.

Police are still searching for the other suspects. In court Tuesday, the prosecutor said Shaw has refused to turn in other suspects.
Shaw did apologize to the victims, saying he is no longer that person.
"I made a very bad decision and I apologize for that," he said. "Pray that the victims forgive me for what I've done."
Shaw added he would do his time and try to better himself when he got out.
His grandfather, who raised him, took the stand to also apologize to the victims and ask for forgiveness for Shaw. He said his grandson was a good guy but fell in with the wrong crowd.
The judge then ruled Shaw would serve four consecutive 51-month sentences, or a minimum of 17 years, for the crime.
