Customers camp out ahead of shopping deals
People were camping out way in advance of Black Friday deals Thursday.
The Best Buy store in Raleigh's Brier Creek didn't open until 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day and lines were already curved around the store by noon.
There were about 20 people camped out with tents, sleeping bags and chairs, hoping to grab the good deals.
"Great deals," Devin Snell said. "You can't beat it. $299 for PS4. You can't beat it."
Retailers such as Best Buy and Toys 'R' Us all opened at 5 p.m., while Walmart, Target, Sears, Kohls, Macys, and Belk opened at 6 p.m.
Other retailers though have vowed to stay closed Thanksgiving so employees can enjoy time with their families.
Lowe's, Costco, Sam's Club are closed Thursday and will open Friday morning. Some like REI even announced they'd be closed on Friday this year - instead encouraging people to #OptOutside with their families.
But some shoppers say they enjoy the after Thanksgiving buying ritual and waiting in long lines is worth it to save some green.
"Long boring," Breana Staves of Raleigh said. "I'm hungry waiting for my family to get here, but I'm excited. Ready to get this TV. It's worth the wait."
Despite the long wait, shoppers said they'd go straight home after buying their electronics to spend Thanksgiving with their families.
