SOUTHERN PINES, NC (WTVD) -- The Southern Pines Police Department says police dog "Boely" is retiring from the force after a job well done.

"Boely began his tour of duty in March of 2013, and ended his tour of duty in May of 2016, due to medical reasons," said the department in a Facebook post.

During his career, he sniffed out drugs and helped find missing persons and criminals.

Boely will continue to live with his handler Sgt. Dana Smith in retirement.
