Residents are asked to reduce non-essential water use whenever possible.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) -- Johnston County is asking residents to voluntarily conserve water as ongoing drought conditions continue to affect the county’s primary water supply.
People are asked to reduce non-essential water use whenever possible.
The County says simple steps such as limiting outdoor watering, washing cars less, and fixing leaks can help reduce demand on the system.
Under the County’s mandatory conservation policy, in-ground irrigation systems, hose-end sprinklers, and pool filling activities must follow an alternate-day schedule based on street address.
Johnston County Public Utilities will continue to monitor river levels, water demand, and drought conditions and will provide updates as needed.
