Excitement buzzes as Hilltop Honeybees start first year at new school
More Wake County students are heading back to school Thursday.
FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WTVD) -- More Wake County students are heading back to school Thursday as year-round calendar students on Track 4 begin a new school year.
Among them are students attending Hilltop Needmore Road Elementary School in Fuquay-Varina, the district's newest school.
Principal Caroline Miller said excitement has been building for months, and that enthusiasm was on full display during a meet-and-greet with families earlier this week.
"Our families were lined up down the sidewalk, like it was Black Friday ready to come in," Miller said. "Our community has been waiting for this school for several years and our doors have finally opened. And the level of excitement and enthusiasm to be part of the Hilltop community was so evident last night."
Miller said the school's staff plans to build on that excitement as students begin the academic year.
More than 400 students are enrolled at the new school, where the mascot is the Hilltop Honeybees.
Hilltop Needmore Road Elementary is one of several schools welcoming Track 4 students back as Wake County continues staggered starts for year-round calendar schools.
