ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police say they have identified several persons of interest in connection with a mass shooting in Asheville that left two people dead and seven others injured.

The Asheville Police Department announced Friday that investigators have identified multiple persons of interest and are working to locate them.

Authorities also said they believe the shooting was a direct act of retaliation for a separate shooting that occurred July 5, when one person was shot.

Police said an arrest has already been made in the earlier shooting.

The investigation into the mass shooting remains ongoing. Officials have not released additional information about the persons of interest or any potential charges.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Asheville Police Department.
