DURHAM (WTVD) -- Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Kaine visited North Carolina fresh off his running mate's third and final debate presidential debate.

Kaine visited voters in Apex and then spoke at North Carolina Central University on Thursday, one night after his ticketmate Hillary Clinton debated in Las Vegas against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Kaine called North Carolina the checkmate state, and he said he'll be back, along with some friends.

"You're going to be tired of me before November 8, because I'm coming back, Kaine told the crowd. "Hillary is coming back, Bill Clinton is coming back, President Obama is coming back, Joe Biden is coming back, because you are important and we've got to win North Carolina."
