1 dead, 1 injured in Clayton accident

CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Clayton police are investigating a single-vehicle accident that left one person dead.

It happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday at Dairy Road and Barber Mill Road.

Police say the car ran a stop sign and then crashed into a tree.

The passenger, 86-year-old Ruby Lee Walters, was rushed to WakeMed where she later died.

The driver, 67-year-old Sandra Lee Culhane, was taken to Johnston Health then transferred to WakeMed. She is expected to be okay.

It is unknown at this time if any charges will be filed.
