MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of North Carolina hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday for its new temple at 3109 Globe Road in Morrisville.

Several prominent figures attended the event, including Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley, State Sen. Jay Chaudhuri, and representatives from major Hindu temples across the Triangle.

A worship service was held, with blessings and prayers offered for the success of the temple's construction and its future role in the community.

"The new temple will not only serve as a spiritual center but will also work to promote the essential teachings of Swami Vivekananda, especially in today's world. It will be a space for people to unite, find peace, and contribute to the service of humanity," said Dr. Samrat Das, President of the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of NC.

Organizers also said that the new temple will be a Universal Temple, meaning people of all faiths are welcome to attend all events and services.

"This universal nature is vital in these times, promoting inclusivity, peace, and understanding across different belief systems. For example, we celebrate Christmas at our Center, embracing the spirit of unity that transcends religious boundaries. Our Temple's open and inclusive philosophy is both unique and essential for fostering a more harmonious and compassionate world," the Society said in a release.
