R. Kelly's attorneys file motions for a new trial and bond
The new filing comes a day after a judge denied Kelly's attorneys' request for him to be temporarily released from prison.

BUTNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- ABC11 News has learned that attorneys for R. Kelly have filed a motion for a new trial and an emergency motion for bond. The motions were filed Friday in Illinois.

The new filing comes a day after a judge denied their request for Kelly to be temporarily released from prison based on claims in that filing, earlier this week, that the Federal Bureau of Prisons is taking steps to kill Kelly at Butner prison in North Carolina.

Kelly's attorneys say in the filings for a new trial that Federal prosecutors and Bureau of Prisons officers have intimidated witnesses, obstructed justice, and violated Mr. Kelly's constitutional rights

Kelly's attorney, Beau Brindley, released this statement to ABC11 after the new filings: "In their zeal to become Me Too warriors who brought down R. Kelly, federal prosecutors and Bureau of Prisons officers have intimidated witnesses, obstructed justice, and violated Mr. Kelly's constitutional rights. Our motion sets forth the entire sordid story of both the crimes they committed in pursuing R. Kelly and of the plot to forever silence him to prevent these crimes from being exposed. We will not rest until Mr. Kelly is free."

Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking at Federal Correctional Complex Butner.

Staff at the prison are not commenting on the pending litigation.
