RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Good morning,
Clear & cold today with highs in the low 40s. Little breezy at times will make it feel even colder! Still clear tonight with lows in the mid-20s, then clouds increase tomorrow with a chance for a light afternoon shower, even a mix of snow and sleet north of the Triangle...that likely won't be an issue as the air is very dry and most of it evaporates. Periods of light rain late Sunday night into Monday morning with a chance for some freezing rain north of I-85, then turning to all rain as the temperatures rise above freezing. Limited impacts expected north of I-85 but we could see a brief light glaze of ice on elevated surfaces. Rain tapers off by early afternoon then on the backside of the system, if there is enough moisture left we could see a few flakes, mainly north of the Triangle.
More arctic air arrives behind this system and we are well below average for the rest of the week with Thursday being the coldest day in the 30s for highs!
There is some model consensus on a southern track system coming for next weekend, mainly Saturday. Way too early to speculate but this is the kind of setup that could bring us some wintry weather. For now we are just monitoring the trends and over the next few days we can fine tune this forecast. I don't want to get snow lovers too excited because most of the time this far out it doesn't pan out.
Stay warm!
