Warrants unsealed in Michelle Young case

READ the unsealed search warrants.

Search warrants obtained first by Eyewitness News provide a closer look at what investigators encountered just hours after Michelle Young's badly beaten body was found inside her home.

Her then 2-year-old daughter was also in the home unharmed. Her husband, Jason Young, was never named as a suspect but was the focus of the investigation. Jason said he was out of town on business when Michelle was killed.

Search warrants released Monday show surveillance video images of Young at a Hillsville, Va. hotel about two-and-a-half hours outside of Raleigh.

He checked in just before 11 p.m. on November 2. Just before midnight, he was seen again in the hotel lobby and later wearing dark colored clothes, walking down a hallway near an exit.

The warrants say hotel workers found a rock propping a hotel door open.

Jason's hotel key card was used once -- minutes after he checked in. The next record is the following morning before noon. He said he drove from Virginia to his parents home in Brevard shortly after checking in.

Despite searches of his relatives' homes and a storage facility in the mountains, investigators say his clothes in the picture were never recovered.

No one was arrested for the murder.

Investigators have described Jason as uncooperative, refusing to help in the early stages of the investigation.

As his family drove him back to Raleigh, he was asked to meet investigators at his home located in the Enchanted Oaks sub division.

He said he needed an attorney to talk and hung up.

There are still no named suspects in the case.

This afternoon beginning at 5 p.m. Eyewitness News will tell you why a shoe design print included in the search warrants is significant to the case.
