The 1910 reference book includes entries on dozens of colleges, universities and secondary schools serving African-Americans in southeastern states in the decades after emancipation.

Only 79 copies of the book are in libraries across the country, including five in North Carolina.

The book is very popular with library patrons and was beginning to show wear and tear, so the library decided to offer it online.
