Troopers say 57-year-old Frances Nell Grooms was walking to work at Hardees, when someone pulled out of a private driveway, ran off the shoulder and struck her.
Grooms was taken to UNC Hospitals with a broken leg.
Police say she described the car that struck her as grey with a black vinyl top. The car was last seen heading east on Old NC 10.
Troopers searched the area, but so far they have no suspects.
