Heart care facility opens in Pitt County

GREENVILLE, NC Construction on the $160 million facility began three years ago.

About 100 patients moved into the new building over the weekend. Rooms include a family area equipped with televisions, phone lines and seats that convert for sleeping.

The new six-story, 375,000-square-foot inpatient care facility is home to 120 inpatient cardiovascular beds, six operating rooms and 11 laboratories.

A statement from the hospital says in 2007, the heart disease death rate in the eastern part of the state was nearly a quarter higher than the state rate.
