The unit - normally based at Fort Bragg - is currently at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, La., conducting mission training. The deployment affects more than 3,000 soldiers.
"A change in mission is something the leaders and Paratroopers of the 4th BCT were prepared for and with today's change of mission order are already adapting and moving forward," offered Col. Brian M. Drinkwine, commander of the 4th BCT. "We intend to leverage all of the capabilities of our brigade combat team, to embed and partner with the Afghan National Security Forces and to work together towards a more stable and secure Afghanistan."
The 4th BCT is the newest airborne brigade combat team within the 82nd Airborne Division, and has already been called upon to serve in Afghanistan once before.
