Shaw names interim president

RALEIGH According to multiple media reports, Dorothy Cowser Yancy will fill-in while Clarence Newsome takes a one-year sabbatical from his post as president.

Last month Newsome made the announcement, and the school said he will not resume his position as president once his sabbatical is over.

The announcement came as a shock to faculty, staff and students.

Yancy is the former president of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. She becomes the first female president of the 144-year-old Shaw University.
