Cox surrendered Tuesday evening. He is being held in the Durham County Jail without bond.
The charge is related to a shooting on October 14.
Detectives say 19-year-old Lamont Monty Brandon Jr. and another man were riding a riding a moped in the 1300 block of North Hyde Park Avenue when a man got out of a car and started shooting at them.
Brandon, who was shot in the torso, was taken to Duke University Hospital where he died a short time later. The other man was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand.
Last November, investigators arrested 24-year-old Alton Dewayne “Popeye” Sanders and charged him with murder in the case.
