Father and son murdered

FAYETTEVILLE Witnesses said they heard multiple shots and called police. When officers arrived, they found two people dead inside 5008 D Watauga Road.

The dead were identified as a father and son. Joe Hawkins - a Navy veteran in his 50s - and his son Alexis Hawkins - possibly in his 20s were both shot to death.

Investigators didn't know the motive for the attack. Witnesses reported seeing a Suburban and an extended cab pickup truck leaving the area soon after it happened.
