Michael Thomas Clark, Jr., 37, is charged with murder, and the sheriff's office says additional charges are pending.

Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison says the motive was robbery. "The motive for the death was robbery, and right now, according to the medical examiner we haven't got all the stuff back yet the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the upper part of the body."

Clark is accused of killing 83-year-old Paula Evelyn McCance of Raleigh. McCance's sister discovered her body in McCance's home on 6937 Rock Service Station Road Monday evening.

According to investigators, Clark had been staying off and on at 6941 Rock Service Station Road, which is behind McCance's house.

"He has a friend that has ties to that mobile home so he was staying there part time in and out, but basically he was homeless," Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

Harrison also said the owner of the mobile home was a friend and co-worker of Clark's.
