Carrboro woman allowed to stay in U.S.

ORANGE COUNTY Chapel Hill police first arrested Fallahi back in 2006 for an outstanding deportation order.

The Iranian citizen was held in jail for three months and faced extradition.

Fallahi was seeking political asylum from Iran, because she was afraid to return to the country since she was a single mother.

On Tuesday, an immigration judge granted her wish, but under a different program known as "Cancellation of Removal."

Fallahi now has permanent resident status. The ruling allows her to work and live in the US for the rest of her life.
