A Wake County volunteer firefighter is charged with sending sexually explicit cell phone texts and videos to a 16-year-old girl.Benjamin Meyer, 19, faces a misdemeanor count of disseminating harmful material to a minor and exhibiting harmful performances.

Detectives say Meyer and the girl were acquainted.

Coworkers tell Eyewitness News he's been suspended from the fire department on a personnel matter.

The girl's father spoke with Eyewitness News but didn't want to be identified. He said he wants other parents to be aware of the dangers that lurk at their children's fingertips.

"I just want parents to really consider the dangers that there are predators out there in the Triangle that have access to your house. I have found a predator in my house, it's happened to me and it could happen to other children," he said.

Eyewitness News spoke with Meyer and his parents. They declined to comment on the case.
