Witnesses told detectives they saw Capel push pine straw against the house, douse it with gasoline and set fire to it.
Capel's roommate was inside the home at the time. Apparently the two had an argument earlier in the day.
The roommate was not injured and the home was not damaged.
Capel is charged two felonies -- attempted first-degree arson and burning of person property.
He is being held under a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on August 12.
