The Highway Patrol said 30-year-old David Beasley was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center lane, slamming head-on into another car.
Authorities estimate he was going 70 mph and the posted speed limit is 55.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with a broken leg.
