Mayor Meeker sworn in fifth time

Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker was sworn in for his fifth term Monday night.Meeker and newly elected city council members Bonner Gaylord and John Odom were sworn in during a ceremony at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Meeker's fifth term in office ties him with the late Avery Upchurch as Raleigh's longest serving mayor.

Meeker talked about his vision for his next term including how he'll handle the recession.

"Let us not use the troubled national economy as an excuse to stop building a great city," Meeker said. "Now is the time to increase our competitive advantage. Our goal is to be an even stronger city when this recession ends."
