Man killed in single-vehicle wreck

WAKE COUNTY According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of a Volkswagen was killed Monday when his car slammed into a tree on Zebulon Road. The car's engine was knocked out of the vehicle due to the force of the impact, and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. He was the only person in the car.

It happened on Zebulon Rd. at the intersection of Kings Court, which is north of the town of Zebulon.

Authorities don't know what time the crash happened. They say a passing motorist discovered the wreckage and called 911.

The Highway Patrol has not released the victim's identity.
