Her body was found burned in January 2008 on the side of I-85 in Virginia.
Her husband Harish Patel is facing life in prison if convicted of her murder.
Defense attorneys told the jury to focus on potential holes in investigations by Cary police and the Mecklenburg County Virginia sheriff's office.
Testimony will pick up where it left off Wednesday. If convicted of first-degree murder, Patel could spend the rest of his life behind bars without parole.
