Homes evacuated after man shoots at police

DURHAM Police say a man inside a home on Washington Street fired at officers twice around 8:30 p.m.

Authorities escorted people out of their homes as a precaution.

Residents were told to wait at street corners near the scene, while authorities negotiated with the man.

They were later able to return to their homes about an hour later.

None of the residents were hurt, but a police officer was taken away in an ambulance. It is unclear what happened to the suspect.

Further details about the incident are not being released at this time.
