Bond set at $30m for accused bus hijacker

WARREN COUNTY

Jose Darwin Flores, 32, of Arlington, Virginia is charged with 30 counts of kidnapping.

Prosecutors say Flores pulled a gun on a bus with 35 passengers and ordered the driver to stop near Norlina, about 60 miles north of Raleigh. Police surrounded the bus after it pulled into a gas station. Flores was arrested after he was hit with a stun gun.

"The guy had a gun. He actually said he had 9 shots, got 9 rounds. We though he was gonna start firing, so we got off the bus as quickly as possible," recalled passenger Arthur Watson.

There's no word yet for a possible motive for the incident. In court Monday, Flores' lawyer said he wants to have him evaluated by a doctor to determine his mental state.
