Police said John Perry, 52, was on foot just after 10:00 p.m. when he stepped in front of a car on US-64 near West Washington Street in Nashville.
After he was hit, Perry landed in the main traffic lanes. There he was hit by four more cars and a tractor trailer.
Drivers thought they had hit a deer. The truck driver did not stop after the accident.
Police are trying to track down that driver.
So far no charges have been filed.
US-64 was closed overnight while police investigated.
