As the mercury rises, so does the need for fans and air conditioners. However, with the increasing demand, Raleigh's Helping Hand Mission is stretched thin and in need of donations.

"The phones been jumping like popcorn," Helping Hand Mission Director Sylvia Wiggins said. "People [have] been asking for help with fans."

At one point Wednesday, Wiggins said she only had four fans left and about 90 requests to fill.

"We've already got deliveries and places to carry them and people just asking for some kind of relief," she explained. "Something to stir the air around the house."

Wiggins says being able to meet the demand is a blessing that would be impossible without donated fans and air conditioning units from generous people.

"They can drop them off," she said. "We're over at 623 Rock Quarry Road. If they got something gently used or maybe something they had last year, or maybe they redoing the A/C. Anything they got old we'll be glad to get."

If you'd like to make a donation, please drop your fan or air conditioner at:
