Warrant: Former sheriff admitted taking money

LOUISBURG, N.C.

"I took money, I'm not going to lie to ya'll. I became depressed. I wanted to stay home. I took money to buy things for the kids, clothes, gas," Green is quoted.

Although the SBI's search warrant clearly shows they believe they have a confession, Green has not been charged.

The state attorney general's office told ABC11 Thursday that prosecutors are reviewing the evidence to see if charges should be filed.

Green abruptly retired as Franklin County Sheriff in January, citing health and personal matters. Green was elected sheriff in 2006 and was re-elected in November.
