Driver crashes into pole, closes road

RALEIGH

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a car collided with a utility pole in the 2900 block of Poole Road. The pole was broken causing disruption to electrical service in the area.

The driver of the vehicle, 49-year-old Pauline Mazzie, was taken to WakeMed with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

According the the wreck report, Mazzie had recently left a convenience store where witnesses said she appeared intoxicated. Police charged her with DUI and failure to maintain lane control.

Donald Ross Drive at Poole Road had to be shutdown as Progress Energy crews worked to restore power to customers.

The road was later reopened around 11 a.m.
