State Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin told ABC11 Thursday that the State Department of Insurance has been able to persuade the insurance companies to review the claims again.
Goodwin was in Washington County Thursday and will tour Dare County on Friday. He said his office had been fielding complaints from people who said they're not happy with the service they've been getting from insurers and claims adjusters.
Goodwin said people who had their claims denied, should call their insurance company directly or the state department for further information at 1-866-546-5664.
Insurance assistance centers will also be open Oct. 10 - 12.
The NCDOI Eastern Regional Office at 1316 Unit A, Commerce Drive in New Bern will be open Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Oct. 11, a center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dare County Board of Commissioner's Meeting Room at 954 Marshall Collins Drive in Manteo.
And on Oct. 12, a center will be open on Hatteras Island from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. at an undetermined location.
