Authorities in Fayetteville are investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian near Jack Britt High School Thursday.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Dundle and Stoney Point roads.

Officials said said 30-year-old Matthew Nobles was traveling southeast on Stoney Point Road when his 2002 Ford Explorer drifted off the right side of the roadway and struck 53-year-old Shirley Ann Schultz, who was walking along the road.

The Explorer continued off the roadway and struck a utility pole, chain link fence and hit a parked vehicle before flipping on its side.

Nobles was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Authorities said students from nearby Jack Britt High School were not involved in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation. It is unclear if any charges have been filed at this time.
