Police officers said they heard shots fired around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lane of Highway 70 Business near Clayton.
The driver of the cab told ABC11 that she picked the suspect up earlier in the day and he requested another pick up outside the Smithfield Chicken and BBQ off Hwy 70 in Johnston County. That's when officers said they heard the gun shots.
The driver was not hurt. Police have not said what the suspect was shooting at.
Further details about the incident have not been released.
