Family robbed at gunpoint in Rocky Mount park

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.

Police say the people behind the crime were young teenagers just 14 and 15 years old.

The police report shows a man, his 12-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter were playing in the park when the two teens pulled guns on the family and demanded money.

The police report also indicated the teens got about $30 and hopped on their bikes. An officer spotted them fleeing and both were arrested without incident.

It is certainly scary news for those who enjoy the park.

"To be honest, I'm not really surprised around this sort of area but it's a terrible thing and really should not happen," said local resident Josh Pridgen.

The victims were not physically hurt.

Police say both suspects will be charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon as juveniles. However, they say they're still investigating the case.
