Family, friends say goodbye to Raleigh firefighter

RALEIGH

The 43 year old died in a head-on crash last week in Granville County. His funeral was held at Providence Baptist Church on Glenwood Avenue.

Fellow firefighters came to pay their respects to a man they said they admired, someone who was hardworking, and someone who cared about his crew.

Family members talked about Nipper as being a loving husband, son and brother, and also a loving father who adored his two children Gracie and Cody. It was Cody who spoke that the funeral to honor his father's memory.

"He was someone I could look up," said Cody. "He wasn't just my dad. He was my best friend."

Now, Nipper's brother, Chad, said he will try to step up to help raise his niece and nephew, the way his older brother would have wanted him to.

"He was a man of integrity," said Chad. "He was a great father and I hope I can help guide his wishes for you Cody and Gracie."

Gracie Nipper remains in the hospital recovering from the injuries she received in the accident that killed her father. However, her mother spoke on her behalf, and said that Gracie is recovering and is fighting,

After the service, Nipper was buried at Raleigh Memorial Park.
