Suspect on the loose: Man stabbed in Durham Brightleaf Square parking lot
DURHAM (WTVD) -- Police are on the search for a suspect who stabbed a 33-year-old man in a Brightleaf Square parking lot on the 900 block of West Main Street in downtown Sunday night.

The victim is a UNC-Chapel Hill alum. He was rooting for the Tar Heels in Sunday night's NCAA game at a bar and restaurant called The Federal.
Police said he was walking away from his car in the parking lot when another man came up behind him and demanded his wallet.
The victim offered his cash, but didn't want to give up the actual wallet -- that's when the suspect punched him in the head, knocking him to ground. He then stabbed him in the lower back, took his wallet and ran.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, and according to authorities, his injuries appear to non-life threatening.

Christina Lanier, the manager of nearby restaurant and Irish pub James Joyce, said the incident is surprising to her and that she's always felt safe walking to her car.
"It's shocking to hear about it because it's not something we deal with around here," Lanier said. "It's a really safe area. Durham Police are always in the area - there's a police station just right up the block."
Brightleaf Square patron Victor Moore said he lives and works in Durham and comes to the area often. He said he was also startled to hear about the stabbing.
"There's a lot of things that will happen down here over the weekend - lots of fun, lots of people, it's pretty safe, well populated," Moore said. "It's just really surprising that something like that happened."
