ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WTVD) -- A person was shot while a police unit executed a search warrant in Rocky Mount on Monday morning.
It happened around 8:15 at a home on Windsor Street.
Rocky Mount Police Department (RMPD) said its Special Operations Division's Narcotics Unit was working with the Violent Crime Unit to execute the search warrant.
Officers demanded everyone inside the home to exit.
"Some people did exit the home until there was no one left in the home," RMPD Chief Robert Hassell said.
However, at some point shots rang out. It's unclear who all opened fire, but an officer did end up shooting a person at the scene.
"I know the victim or the citizen that sustained injury was in his early twenties, maybe 19. But I cannot confirm that at this time. It was one of the four in the house," Hassell said.
No officers were injured. The officer who opened fire has been placed on administrative detail.
According to the police department, the person who was shot had non-life-threatening injures. Still, that person was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident is under investigation and the State Bureau of Investigation has been notified and will take the lead in the case.
