ABC11 Eyewitness captures extreme Apex barn fire

APEX. N.C. (WTVD) -- An ABC11 Eyewitness sent footage of a barn burning dangerously close to several Wake County homes.

The flames broke out on Sunday afternoon in the 1200 block of Twin Creek Road in Apex. That's east of the Triangle Expressway.

Our crew said you could see the thick smoke all the way in downtown Raleigh at one point.

Neighbors were concerned the fire would travel over to their homes.

"The structure that burned and the flames going up were as high as those tall trees to the left of the hay barn," said resident Peter Dunn. "If this had jumped the tree line, we would have had a major crisis."

The barn was completely destroyed, officials said.
